Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed that Rúben Amorim is ‘doing his best’ at Manchester United, but it’s unrealistic to expect the Portuguese manager to perform ‘miracles’. Ronaldo, who emerged as one of the world’s top players during his first stint at Old Trafford, won his first Ballon d'Or with the club before his transfer to Real Madrid in 2009.

The 40-year-old returned for a second stint with United in 2021. Although he achieved impressive goalscoring feats for his age, Ronaldo's time at the club ended on a bitter note following a falling out with Erik ten Hag. The legendary forward secured every major club trophy during his initial tenure, but United has faced significant challenges in the last decade. Amorim led United to their lowest-ever Premier League finish last season, prompting Ronaldo to share his thoughts on his fellow countryman during an extensive interview with Piers Morgan.

Amorim has come under intense scrutiny during his time at Old Trafford, yet there are signs of hope, and Ronaldo believes he needs time to make an impact. “He’s [Amorim] doing his best,” Ronaldo remarked. “What can you do? Miracles are impossible. We say in Portugal, ‘Miracles only happen in Fatima’... And he’s not going to perform miracles. The team has talented players, but some of them don’t fully grasp what Manchester United represents.”

In a prior interview with Morgan, the Al-Nassr star was quite critical of United’s management, but he has now reaffirmed his affection for the club and his sadness over its current state. “I’m sad for the club; it’s one of the most iconic clubs in the world, and I still have it in my heart for obvious reasons,” Ronaldo stated. “I won the Champions League there, the Ballon d'Or, and numerous titles. So, I will reiterate: Manchester United is still in my heart. I love that club. However, we must be honest and acknowledge that they are not on the right path.”
