Süper Lig market values: Former Premier League stars Jhon Durán and Edson Álvarez continue to drop

As the season approaches the halfway mark, Transfermarkt has revised the market values of 492 players in the Süper Lig. Notably, Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen retains the top position with a value of €75m, while Fenerbahçe’s Jhon Durán has seen a €3m decline in his market value, dropping from €35m to €32m. Durán is not the only notable player experiencing a decrease, and we will explore each case individually.

Süper Lig: All new market values at a glance

“Durán joined Fenerbahçe on loan but has not lived up to expectations thus far,” stated Sinan Yener, Editor at Transfermarkt.com.tr. “His one-season cost exceeds €20 million, and he was acquired with the hope of making an impact similar to Osimhen. Unfortunately, persistent injuries restricted him to several matches and predominantly as a substitute, hindering his ability to find rhythm.” With only three goals and two assists in 13 games, his performance has raised questions about his future. “He is under contract with Saudi club Al-Nassr,” Yener added. “However, he’s still young with great potential, which is why we opted for a modest €3m downgrade.”

Another former Premier League player at Fenerbahçe, Edson Álvarez, also saw a dip in his market value. “Since moving from the Premier League, the world’s premier league, to the Süper Lig, his value has fallen by €3m,” Yener explained. “Although Álvarez has been performing solidly at Fenerbahçe, his €22 million option to buy is less than his previous market assessment, prompting a downward revision.” Álvarez’s value dropped by €2m, from €24m to €22m.

Süper Lig market values: Nene rises, Sané falls – Talents to watch

There was bright news for Fenerbahçe, as 22-year-old forward Dorgeles Nene saw his market value increase by €1m, going from €17m to €18m. “Nene is one of the promising young talents within the Süper Lig with the potential to transition to a top-five European league,” Yener noted. “Fenerbahçe acquired him for roughly €22 million, including bonuses. He is exceptionally fast and actively contributes to goal-scoring.”

Nene is among three standout talents to monitor. At Trabzonspor, two young players have particularly shone this season: Christ Inao Oulaï and Arseniy Batagov. “Christ Inao Oulaï experienced the most significant increase in this update,” Yener remarked. “He has exceptional potential and is performing impressively in the Süper Lig, having been called up to the Ivory Coast national team for the Africa Cup of Nations. Several clubs from major leagues are closely observing him, and he could soon be Trabzonspor’s next major transfer.” Oulaï’s market value surged by 100%, rising from €4m to €8m. Meanwhile, Batagov slightly edges him with a €2m increase from €7m to €9m. “Italian clubs, notably Napoli, are keeping an eye on him. However, his lack of regular play in European competitions or for the Ukraine national team keeps his valuation at €9 million.”

Lastly, at Galatasaray, Leroy Sané has regained his form and reentered the German national team. Yet despite his contributions, the 29-year-old experienced a market value reduction from €25m to €23m. “Sané showed exceptional performance in Germany’s recent matches, contributing to goals in the Champions League and for Galatasaray,” Yener stated. “However, €25 million was deemed excessive for a 29-year-old competing outside the top five leagues, leading to the reduction to €23 million.”

How Transfermarkt Determines Market Values
The market values on Transfermarkt are derived from various pricing models, primarily influenced by the Transfermarkt community, where members actively discuss and evaluate player worth. It is important to note that these values should not be confused with transfer fees.
The aim is to estimate a player’s projected value within an open market. Factors such as individual transfer details and contextual circumstances play a significant role in determining market prices. Transfermarkt does not employ an algorithm (for a detailed market value definition, click here).
