Bayern Munich faced a challenging match to secure all three points at the Parc des Princes, as head coach Vincent Kompany celebrated passionately with his players post-game. The Belgian tactician's enthusiastic reaction suggested they had triumphed in the tournament when, in reality, they secured a hard-earned victory over the European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, finishing 2-1. This match marked their 16th consecutive win.

Despite a dominant second half from PSG, it was evident that Bayern deserved at least a point. The first half belonged to the German champions, with Luis Díaz striking twice at the 4th and 32nd minutes. Opportunities to extend their lead came from Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry; however, Bayern's momentum was halted when Gnabry received a red card for a reckless challenge on Achraf Hakimi just before halftime, leaving them a man down.

Although PSG's Joao Neves pulled a goal back midway through the second half, Bayern managed to hold on for their 16th consecutive win. This streak places them five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and jointly atop their Champions League group alongside Arsenal. They have now broken the previous record for most consecutive victories, a record that stood at 13 wins held by AC Milan in the 92/93 season, highlighting Bayern's impressive form and positioning them as serious contenders for the European Cup this year.

In addition to this season’s stellar start, Kompany can boast of winning last season’s Bundesliga. Since taking charge in the summer of 2024, he has achieved 54 wins, nine draws, and just nine losses across 72 matches, resulting in a remarkable average of 2.38 points per game. Comparatively, this record showcases significant improvement over his predecessors at Bayern.

As illustrated in the graphic above, Kompany has outperformed Thomas Tuchel, who averaged 1.95 points per game. Kompany’s average is 22% higher than Tuchel’s and is also better than those of Julian Nagelsmann (2.31), Niko Kovac (2.26), and Carlo Ancelotti (2.28). However, he still trails behind Hansi Flick’s impressive average of 2.53 points per game, the best among Bayern’s last ten full-time head coaches. He also needs to surpass Jupp Heynckes’ two tenures (2.43 and 2.49) and Pep Guardiola’s (2.41) to fully cement his legacy at the club.

While improving on Tuchel or Nagelsmann is commendable, if Kompany aspires to be mentioned alongside Flick, Heynckes, or Guardiola, he must guide Bayern deep into the Champions League this season and contend for the title. If Tuesday's performance in Paris is any indicator, Kompany and his talented squad seem well aware of the high expectations ahead and may have the capability to meet them.
