Argentina market values: Rising star Cambeses up - Zeballos Boca's best

With the Argentine season now concluded, Transfermarkt has revised the market values of 867 players from the Torneo Clausura. There have been notable changes at the top spots, featuring Maher Carrizo (Vélez Sarsfield; €10m), Kevin Lomónaco (Independiente; -€2m), and Juan Ignacio Nardoni (Racing Club; -€1m). Meanwhile, some of the league’s most promising talents experienced significant adjustments in their market values, including Lautaro Rivero (River Plate), Facundo Cambeses, Marco Di Césare (both Racing), Exequiel Zeballos, Lautaro Di Lollo, Kevin Zenón (all Boca Juniors), and Agustín Medina (Lanús).

Argentina Market Value Update In-News

standout player for Racing Club is goalkeeper Cambeses. Despite not being able to prevent Estudiantes from claiming the league title (losing 5-6 on penalties), Cambeses saw his market value surge by 194.1%, rising from €1.7m to €5m. “He received a national team call-up during the last international break,” said Scott Christensen, Transfermarkt Area Manager for South America and Argentina. “After earning the starting position, Cambeses made a significant impact and is now considered one of Argentina’s most valuable goalkeepers, alongside San Lorenzo’s Orlando Gill (whose value remains unchanged). I believe he has the potential to be included in next year’s World Cup squad.”

Conversely, his teammate Di Césare’s situation is less favorable. “Since joining Racing from Argentinos Juniors, he emerged as one of the league’s top center-backs,” Christensen noted. “Racing received offers of around €8m from clubs in Italy and the Netherlands over the past six months, but they declined those proposals. Since then, his performance has declined, and at times he hasn’t even started for the team.” Consequently, his market value decreased by 25%, dropping from €8m to €6m. “He has great ball-playing abilities, but inconsistency has led to his second successive downgrade.”

Argentina Market Values: Fluctuations at River and Boca

Among Argentina’s major clubs, River Plate and Boca Juniors, there have been both positive and negative developments. Following a disappointing campaign, River saw 22 of its players experience downgrades in this market value update. “Rivero is the only positive news from this update,” Christensen stated. Brought back early from his loan at Central Córdoba, Rivero is a swift and assertive center-back with excellent ball skills. His market value increased by 75%, rising from €4m to €7m, making it the second biggest jump after Cambeses.

At Boca Juniors, star players also experienced fluctuations in their market values. The highest valued player post-update is Zeballos, whose market value increased from €4.5m to €7m. “After recovering from two serious injuries, Zeballos has regained confidence and is now Boca’s best player in one-on-one situations,” Christensen explained. Another Boca player with a notable rise is center-back Di Lollo. “His performance has significantly improved since the first half of the season,” Christensen remarked. “Di Lollo is a tall, muscular center-back who contributes to the attack.” His market value climbed by 50%, going from €4m to €6m. However, midfielder Zenón experienced a decline, with his value decreasing by 21.4%, from €7m to €5.5m. “After being their standout player last year, he has struggled this season,” Christensen added. “He has seen little playing time and his confidence has waned.”

Meanwhile, away from Boca and River, young talent Agustín Medina continues to impress. The 19-year-old midfielder from Lanús saw his market value rise by 50%, from €3m to €4.5m. “He has become a key figure in Lanús’ midfield,” Christensen noted. “Medina played a crucial role in the club’s journey to the Copa Sudamericana title, showcasing his ability to recover the ball and participate in offensive plays.”

Understanding Transfermarkt Market Values

Transfermarkt’s market values are determined through various pricing models, heavily influenced by discussions and evaluations from the Transfermarkt community members. It’s essential to note that these market values do not equate to transfer fees.

The objective is not to predict a selling price but to provide an expected value of a player in a free market. Multiple factors, such as transfer modalities and situational conditions, are considered when calculating market values. Transfermarkt does not employ an algorithm to determine these values (more details can be found in the market value definition here).
