During that season, he made 37 appearances for Matt Busby’s squad, contributing five goals as the club worked to rebuild after the Munich Air Disaster in 1958.

Jimmy later played 68 matches for the Reds, adding one more goal to his tally with a decisive late winner in an FA Cup match against Bolton Wanderers.

In late 1964, he transferred to Huddersfield Town for a fee of £7,500, marking the beginning of a long tenure with the West Yorkshire club. He notably captained the Terriers to a Second Division title victory in the 1969/70 season, remaining a constant presence in the team.
