Describing the matchups between the Reds and Grimsby as infrequent is quite the understatement, with the most recent clash taking place more than 75 years ago, in March 1948.
This marked the conclusion of just 37 encounters between the two clubs since their first meeting in 1894, when we were still known as Newton Heath.
In terms of head-to-head results, the records are closely matched: United has secured 16 victories, Grimsby has claimed 15 wins, and there have been six draws. Our last face-off in 1948 ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
While those historical results may not influence the current matchup, the Reds will be eager to improve our record and enjoy the excitement of this rare encounter, especially as many will be visiting a new venue.
