The first half was largely controlled by the defenses, with both teams struggling to create any significant chances.
Lusale posed a threat to Boro goalkeeper Joseph Richardson when he intercepted an attempted clearance, nearly taking advantage of a momentary lapse.
Heath skillfully handled the first shot of the day, while at the other end, James Bailey’s cross was confidently gathered by Richardson.
<pJust two minutes before halftime, the opening goal was scored. A United free-kick from the right was quickly put back into play, and Gabriel courageously fought for a loose ball, seemingly heading it toward Lusale, who delivered a precise volley into the net.
The Teessiders argued for a foul in the lead-up to the goal, but it was allowed to stand. After receiving treatment, Gabriel was acknowledged with a supportive pat on the back from head coach Darren Fletcher for his effort.
