Welbeck has scored 37 top-flight goals for the south-coast club, tying for the most in the team’s history with Michael Robinson. He remains a player capable of making an impact in the 17:30 BST kick-off.
“I have a passion and love for football,” he expressed over the weekend. “It’s what I want to do. I feel great—strong and fit—so I’m not planning on stopping anytime soon.”
During Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season as manager, Welbeck made 27 league appearances, with 13 of those as a starter.
He scored just once in the league that season, netting in a 4-2 win against Stoke City, the same team he faced in his senior league debut in 2008. However, he did score on a memorable occasion, finding the net during the away draw against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
