While some clubs are excelling in this Premier League season, others are struggling with poor form. Manchester City finds itself in a middle ground. After finishing third last season with their lowest points tally since Pep Guardiola's arrival, the team currently ranks second in the league but shows little promise of challenging for the title this year.

This situation largely stems from a transitional phase for Guardiola's squad. The Spanish manager parted ways with key players like Ederson, Kevin De Bruyne, İlkay Gündoğan, and Kyle Walker during the summer transfer window. Although Manchester City invested a substantial €207 million in new talent, these newcomers have not yet filled the significant void left by their predecessors. A glance at the recent Transfermarkt Premier League market value update reveals the mixed fortunes of Guardiola’s squad at this point.

Manchester City: Market Value Analysis

Following the latest market value assessment, Manchester City’s squad value dropped by €16 million to €577 million, marking the largest decline among Premier League squads. This drop means Guardiola's team is now the second most valuable in the English top flight. A total of eight players from Manchester City experienced a decline in market value during this update, including minor decreases for backup players such as Stefan Ortega (-€2m), Kalvin Phillips (-€2m), John Stones (-€5m), and Nathan Aké (-€5m). More significant losses were noted among key players: Rúben Dias lost €5m, Bernardo Silva's value decreased by €6m to €32m, Phil Foden saw a drop of €20m to €80m, and former Ballon d'Or winner Rodri's value fell from €110m to €90m.

However, there were positive developments for the former champions. Oscar Bobb, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Jérémy Doku all saw their market values increase by €5 million. Meanwhile, new signings James Trafford and Tijjani Reijnders also had their values adjusted upward in line with their transfer fees and current performances. The most notable increase was for young England left-back Nico O’Reilly, whose emergence as an exciting talent at Etihad has boosted his market value from €18 million to €30 million.
