Nevertheless, many fans cherish memories of his contributions during this time, and he is held in high regard across British football—especially in the north-east, where he played a pivotal role in inspiring a young Magpies supporter named Bryan Robson.
In his 2007 autobiography, Robson, affectionately known as ‘Robbo,’ reflected on Wyn Davies—fondly dubbed ‘The Mighty Wyn’ and ‘The Footballer Who Could Fly’ on Tyneside—with deep admiration.
“My hero back then was Wyn Davies, a formidable centre-forward who took on everyone without hesitation,” reminisced the United legend. “Continental teams simply couldn’t handle him; he dominated aerially and effortlessly set up his teammates.
“From an early age, I learned the value of aerial prowess in football… I truly idolized Wyn Davies.”
Our thoughts and condolences go out to Wyn’s family, friends, and countless fans during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
