After enduring a challenging week, Tottenham faced three defeats and conceded a total of 11 goals against rivals Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Fulham. What they certainly didn't need was a Premier League match at St James' Park against Newcastle. Despite displaying determination and managing to equalize in stoppage time, Spurs were outperformed throughout the match and relied on two goals from their center-back—coming from their only two shots on target—to salvage a point. Consequently, Thomas Frank's team currently sits in 11th place in the standings.

Last season was quite unusual for Tottenham. They lifted their first trophy in 17 years by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final, yet their domestic performance was disastrous, finishing 17th in the Premier League with just 38 points. This culmination led to Ange Postecoglou being relieved of his managerial duties. However, under Frank's management, Spurs currently find themselves in a worse position than at this same point last season, raising concerns about their form—almost relegation-like.

Last season represented Tottenham's lowest Premier League points tally (38) and their worst final position (17th). The expectation was for an improvement this season. However, when comparing Tottenham's record after 14 matches this season to the previous year, it appears they are performing worse. At this point last season, Spurs had accumulated 20 points, placing them 10th in the league. Currently, they have 19 points and are in 11th. During the 2024/25 campaign, Postecoglou's team scored 28 goals while conceding 15. In contrast, under Frank, they've netted just 23 goals and allowed 18.

The expectation was that Frank would enhance Tottenham's solidity, tactical adaptability, and resilience. In practice, however, the results have remained unchanged while the style of play has become significantly less engaging compared to the approach under Postecoglou. With promoted teams putting up a stronger challenge this season and an intense relegation battle looming, it's not entirely out of the question that Tottenham could find themselves embroiled in that competition. Gaining a point against Newcastle is a foundation to build upon, but both results and performances must see significant improvement.
