As the summer transfer window intensifies, a select group of top-tier players has left their clubs without any transfer fees. While these free agents come without a price tag, their quality and potential value remain significant. This year’s out-of-contract talent pool for 2025 features a mix of experienced internationals and players in their prime who could greatly enhance any squad.

With increasing wage demands and the scrutiny of Financial Fair Play affecting Europe’s biggest clubs, the appeal of high-caliber free agents has reached new heights. At Transfermarkt, we’ve compiled a ranking of the most valuable free agents currently available, many of whose contracts lapsed on July 1. Notably, former Lille striker Jonathan David is not listed, as reports suggest he is close to finalizing a deal with Juventus.

Top Free Agents

At the forefront is French center-back Olivier Boscagli (€20 million), who departed PSV after his contract ended. He has been linked with a potential transfer to Brighton this summer. Following him is former Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin (€16 million), who spent time at the Merseyside club since 2016. Third on the list is full-back Kyle Walker-Peters (€15 million), who experienced relegation with Southampton last season. Midfielder Josh Brownhill (€14 million), a vital player in Burnley’s promotion, ranks fourth but has yet to strike a new deal with the Clarets.

Completing the top five is Thomas Partey (€14 million), who was unable to secure a new contract with Arsenal. French defender Kurt Zouma (€10 million) follows in sixth place after leaving West Ham. Former PSG midfielder Marco Verratti (€10 million) takes the seventh spot after parting ways with Al-Arabi in Qatar. Eighth is right-back Nélson Semedo (€9 million), who recently exited Wolves. Junior Firpo, who left newly promoted Leeds United, ranks ninth, while Qatar international Akram Afif (€8 million) rounds out the top ten.
