“I made some adjustments at half-time, which helped us gain more ball possession. However, we must remember that we’re up against a team that’s expected to win the Champions League. We are Manchester United, and that badge carries a lot of weight, but I’m proud of what the players accomplished tonight. This experience presents us with great opportunities for growth,” he said.
Skinner pointed out that two brilliant goals from Melchie Dumornay in the final minutes were the “difference,” noting that the match remained closely contested for the first 80 minutes until Lyon started to pull away.
“It’s not just a matter of launching an attack, but I would like to see us be more assertive with the ball. In the first half, I think we were a bit hasty in our play. By the second half, we took more time and responsibility, which is essential when facing a team like Lyon,” he explained.
“This was our first encounter with Lyon, so there’s a learning curve involved. I believe there are valuable lessons we can draw from this match that will help us improve going forward.”
