Nottingham Forest is on the verge of announcing Sean Dyche as their new manager. Sky Sports reports that Dyche reached a verbal agreement to take the helm on Sunday night. The club is eager to finalize discussions and introduce the 54-year-old coach before their crucial Europa League match against Porto on Thursday. Although Roberto Mancini and Marco Silva were also contenders, Dyche is set to lead Forest in their quest to revive a season that has seen them achieve just one victory in their first 11 games.
In a dramatic twist, Dyche will become the fourth manager appointed since the club’s promotion to the Premier League in 2022 and the third in 2025 alone. Surprisingly, Forest decided to part ways with Nuno Espírito Santo after he led the team to a seventh-place finish last season, choosing instead to appoint Ange Postecoglou, the former Celtic and Tottenham manager. However, this decision backfired; Postecoglou’s short-lived tenure lasted only 39 days after a dismal run of eight games, yielding just one point. Consequently, Dyche has been brought in to salvage the club’s struggling campaign. But is he the right choice for the job?
Sean Dyche’s Premier League Record
Dyche joins Forest just nine months after leaving Everton and must move swiftly to prove to the club’s supporters that he is capable of changing their fortunes in the Premier League. Although he has enjoyed some success in his managerial career, his Premier League record raises questions about his ability to replicate what Espírito Santo achieved last season.
Over his 10 seasons in the Premier League, including tenures at Burnley and Everton, Dyche has experienced notable highs, like his 1.42 points-per-game averages during the 2017/18 and 2019/20 seasons, when he finished seventh and tenth with Burnley. However, across more than 330 matches in the top flight, his overall average stands at just 1.11 points per game, equating to roughly 42 points in a full season.

Such a points total, while an improvement over Forest’s past performances in their last two Premier League campaigns, would still fall significantly short of the 65 points totaled under Espírito Santo last season. The Spaniard averaged 1.64 points per game— surpassing Dyche’s best seasons by 15%. In Dyche’s defense, he might argue that he has never had a squad as talented as last year’s Forest team.
Nonetheless, this season presents a true test of Dyche’s abilities. It remains to be seen if he can meet the high expectations set by Forest and its committed owner, Evangelos Marinakis. If Dyche can successfully revitalize the club and restore them to the form they displayed under Espírito Santo, it will take unprecedented success for the English manager in the Premier League.
