I understand you’re looking for the right combination for that crucial no. 6 role, particularly in the deeper midfield positions. However, when you position Bruno [Fernandes] there, you’re relocating your best and most consistent player far away from his optimal spot. This change compromises his effectiveness and adds complexity to an already challenging situation, doesn’t it?

“I get how football works—results shape the narratives around us. Take the game against Arsenal; do you really think we performed well? Were we truly the superior side? [Martin] Odegaard, Declan Rice, and [Martin] Zubimendi are all excellent midfielders, while we only had two: Casemiro and Bruno. Team dynamics sometimes dictate performance, and sometimes a scoring opportunity can tilt the balance. I recognize that fans might struggle to accept this perspective, and they may not want to hear it, but I must remain rational and truthful with myself. I acknowledge the frustration surrounding our record and understand the emotions tied to any decision made. The ongoing discussions about finding the right midfield pair—including players like Kobbie Mainoo—are understandable. Yet, from what I’ve observed in certain matches, relying on two midfielders often yields similar results.”

But with Bruno, is it a matter of not having the ideal number six players that forces you to position him there?

“Today, when thinking about our strategy, why not consider using Amad, Bryan [Mbeumo], and [Benjamin] Sesko with Bruno playing behind them? This setup allows him to be the primary receiver of the ball while having quick players ahead. I’m attempting to explore different tactical options, and while taking risks can lead to criticism if things don’t work out, it’s part of the process.”
