From an early age, academy players at United are educated about the importance of the Busby Babes, diving deeper into the events surrounding the Munich tragedy during their Under-13s stage. The young players hear stories from individuals who experienced Busby’s legendary team and gain insights into the broader context of the 1950s beyond just United’s history.
Earlier this year, the U13s participated in a memorial match against Liverpool, where they shared the story of Munich with their rivals’ youth, similar to how Liverpool’s youngsters had educated them about the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster the previous year.
Just a week later, the U13s journeyed to Middlesbrough to take part in a memorial tournament alongside Boro and Bishop Auckland, the amateur club that offered significant support to United during the tragic events of 1958.
