As Premier League football enthusiasts, we often celebrate individual talents, but the essence of the game lies in teamwork and cohesion. Building key partnerships on the pitch is crucial for success, especially at centre-back. The centre-backs often form the backbone of a victorious team, and when two of them work in perfect harmony, it can lead to great results.

Over the past year, Arsenal's duo of William Saliba and Gabriel has captured attention with their robust defensive performances, contributing to the Gunners' title challenge. This trend has continued this season, with Mikel Arteta's squad conceding only three goals in 12 matches across all competitions, with the pair being central to their defensive strength. But how do they rank among the greatest centre-back partnerships in Premier League history? At Transfermarkt, we've analyzed centre-back pairings that have conceded the fewest goals per game (gcpg) since the Premier League's inception in the 1992/93 season, focusing on those who have played together in over 50 league games. The results feature some of the finest central defenders to have played in England and enduring partnerships that have stood strong through the ages.

Top CB Partnerships with the Least Goals Conceded per Game in Premier League History

Leading the pack is the legendary Manchester United duo of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who played 120 Premier League matches together, achieving an impressive record of 0.71 gcpg. Following closely is the renowned Arsenal pairing of Tony Adams and Martin Keown, who played 79 league games side by side, also boasting a record of 0.73 gcpg. Surprisingly, the third spot belongs to Arsenal's centre-back pairing from their invincible 2003/04 season, Sol Campbell and Kolo Touré, who had the same 0.73 gcpg after featuring in 59 matches together.

In fourth place, we have the formidable Chelsea centre-back partnership of John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho, who played 85 Premier League games together with a gcpg of 0.76. Following them in fifth are Manchester City's Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott, who also registered a 0.76 gcpg over 58 games. Saliba and Gabriel now find themselves in sixth position, having played 93 Premier League matches together for Arsenal with a gcpg of 0.78. If they maintain their current defensive form, they have a strong chance of climbing the ranks further this season. In seventh are Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip, who have a gcpg of 0.81 over 72 league appearances.

The eighth slot is occupied by Liverpool's Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger, who recorded a gcpg of 0.84 in their 55 Premier League games together.
