Already spent over €300 million
Liverpool has already invested over €300 million in this summer’s transfer window, making them the highest spending club in the world so far. However, the potential for a major transfer still looms large. According to reports, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has expressed a desire to seek a transfer away from the club this summer. Liverpool, despite having already signed striker Hugo Ekitike for €95 million, is still keen on acquiring the Swedish forward. Isak missed the pre-season tour in the Far East due to a reported thigh injury and has three years left on his contract at St James’ Park. His current market value stands at €120 million.
To secure Isak’s departure, Newcastle would likely demand a Premier League record fee. Liverpool has already set the division’s record by signing attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for €125 million. With several stars potentially leaving Anfield for substantial fees, Liverpool might just manage to pull off an ambitious deal for Isak as well. The Reds recently rejected a bid estimated at €67 million for winger Luis Díaz from Bayern Munich, who are now reportedly preparing to increase their offer up to €75 million for the Colombian. Additionally, Liverpool is looking to offload striker Darwin Núñez, winger Harvey Elliott, and possibly young talent Ben Doak to bolster their finances.
As shown in the graphic above, if Liverpool successfully signs Isak, they would be able to field an exceptionally talented starting XI with impressive depth on the bench. Manager Arne Slot could choose from forward options including Mohamed Salah, Isak, Ekitiké, and Cody Gakpo, along with Wirtz, who could also be deployed on the left wing. After clinching their 20th Premier League title last season, Liverpool’s summer transfers have sent a strong message across the league. Landing Isak could mark the most thrilling addition to their squad, positioning the Reds as formidable contenders for the next season.
