Ousmane Dembélé has been honored with the FIFA Best Player of the Year award. The Paris Saint-Germain forward received this prestigious recognition at a FIFA gala held in Doha. The talented French player triumphed over fellow countryman Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid) and Barcelona's Lamine Yamal. The award for the best female player went to Aitana Bonmatí from Barcelona, with Bayern Munich's Harry Kane also among the nominees.

In the goalkeeper category, Gianluigi Donnarumma from Manchester City emerged victorious. The Italian was celebrated for his exceptional performances at PSG last season, playing a key role in securing the club's first-ever Champions League title. The women's award was claimed by England's Hannah Hampton from Chelsea.

Dembélé has also captured this year’s Ballon d’Or, achieving a remarkable double. It is rare for players to win both accolades in the same year—last year, Rodri (Man City) won the esteemed Ballon d’Or, while Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) took home the FIFA Best Player award.

Paris Saint-Germain had multiple players nominated, including Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, and Nuno Mendes. Other eligible players included Barcelona's Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Pedri, as well as Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé, Chelsea's Cole Palmer, and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah. In the goalkeeper category, Donnarumma surpassed renowned keepers like Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Alisson (Liverpool), and Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid).

PSG's Luis Enrique won the award for best coach, defeating contenders such as Hansi Flick (Barcelona), Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), Arne Slot (Liverpool), and national team coaches Roberto Martínez (Portugal) and Javier Aguirre (Mexico).

The Puskas Award, presented for the most spectacular goal of the season, went to Santiago Montiel. The Independiente winger scored a stunning bicycle kick against Independiente Rivadavia in May 2025. After the match, the 25-year-old Argentine, valued at €3.5 million, remarked, “I didn’t think much, I just did it.”

Differences from the Ballon d'Or

Since 1991, FIFA has been presenting the World Footballer of the Year Award. From 2010 to 2015, in collaboration with the Amaury Group, the award was rebranded as the Ballon d'Or. Today, two distinct awards exist for the best footballer globally. Unlike the Ballon d'Or, which is exclusively determined by journalists, FIFA incorporates votes from national team coaches, captains, and fans, alongside contributions from 200 media members, which account for 50% of the total vote.
