Greek Super League 1 market values: Mouzakitis closes the gap - Ups and downs at Panathinaikos

Transfermarkt has revised the market values for 65 players competing in Greece’s Super League 1. Midfielder Giannis Konstantelias from PAOK remains the top player with a market value of €17 million, but second-placed Christos Mouzakitis has significantly narrowed the gap to just €2 million after receiving a notable increase.

The 18-year-old Olympiacos midfielder saw his market value rise by 25%, climbing from €12 million to €15 million as part of the Super League 1 update. This surge in value comes as no surprise, with top clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal eyeing him. Remarkably, Mouzakitis’ market value was only €450,000 a year ago.

Mouzakitis is not the only Olympiacos player to receive a significant upgrade. Goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis has seen his value increase by €3 million to €13 million, while striker Gabriel Strefezza’s value has risen by €1 million to €7 million. Another player worth noting is Diogo Nascimento, a 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder. After joining from Vizela for €4 million this summer, his market value grew from €2.5 million to €3.5 million. “Tzolakis is now the most valuable Greek goalkeeper,” said Area Manager for Greece, Nikos Sofis. “Odysseas Vlachodimos still holds the record with his €16 million value, but Tzolakis is on track to surpass it.”

Greek Super League 1: Filipe Relvas receives upgrade – Variations at Panathinaikos

The numerous upgrades at Olympiacos were expected, considering the club secured 10 points from their first four matches, matching AEK Athens. The capital club has had a strong start and currently sits second in the league standings. Defender Filipe Relvas has also benefited from the update; the 26-year-old Portuguese player saw his market value increase by 16.7%, moving from €3 million to €3.5 million.

Conversely, Panathinaikos had mixed results, managing a draw against Olympiacos but earning only their second point of the season. Despite this slow start, Argentine midfielder Vicente Taborda’s market value increased by €500,000, rising from €4 million to €4.5 million. American Erik Palmer-Brown’s value also saw a minor increase of €100,000 to €1 million. “While his rise is modest, he has the potential for further increases in the main update this winter,” Sofis commented on Palmer-Brown. However, several Panathinaikos players did experience downgrades, including Pedro Chirivella (-€500,000 to €4 million), Georgios Kyriakopoulos, and Ahmed Touba (both -€500,000 to €2 million), along with Tonny Vilhena (-€300,000 to €1 million).

Understanding Transfermarkt market values

Transfermarkt calculates market values through various pricing models, heavily influenced by its community of members who engage in detailed discussions about player valuations. It’s important to note that these market values do not directly correspond to transfer fees.

The aim is to forecast an expected value for a player in an open market. Factors such as individual transfer conditions and situational contexts play significant roles in determining these values. Transfermarkt does not employ an algorithm for this purpose (detailed market value definitions can be found here).
