Mason Mount acknowledges that the game has evolved significantly from the one he grew up watching.
There’s been considerable discussion this season about the increasing importance of long throw-ins and set-pieces. The fact that both of our goals at Selhurst Park came from Bruno Fernandes’ free-kicks, including Mason’s decisive goal, makes his observations seem even more relevant.
“I think the game has changed a lot since my Premier League debut,” he reflected. “There’s an incredible level of detail now involved in how games are approached. Off the pitch, teams analyze their opponents thoroughly, whether it’s looking at corners or identifying small weaknesses in formations and setting up strategies accordingly.”
“These subtle details can have a significant impact on the outcome of matches, and we can see that the number of goals from set-pieces is much higher than in previous Premier League seasons.”
“This highlights the necessity of being ready for anything; conceding even one set-piece goal could cost you the match. So preparedness is crucial.”
