Anthony Martial is poised to become the latest high-profile addition to CF Monterrey in Liga MX. Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday that the French forward is expected to finalize his medical check before officially joining the team. According to Mexican outlet TUDN, Monterrey will pay $4.5 million (€3.8 million) to acquire Martial from AEK Athens.

Martial moved to the Greek Super League club last summer after his contract with Manchester United ended. During his time with AEK Athens, he scored nine goals and provided two assists in 24 appearances across all competitions. However, AEK decided to offload Martial this summer due to his high salary, which led to him not being registered for the UEFA Conference League squad.

His financial demands also hampered a potential transfer to Liga MX earlier this summer, as Pumas expressed interest but could not agree on personal terms. Fortunately, Monterrey, being one of the richest clubs in Concacaf and boasting top-tier facilities, had no trouble meeting his salary expectations.

Joining Sergio Ramos – What Martial Can Expect at Monterrey

Once his transfer is finalized, Martial will hold the highest market value among CF Monterrey players at €7 million. The most valuable players currently in Monterrey’s squad are former LaLiga stars Sergio Canales and Lucas Ocampos, each valued at €6 million. The standout member of the team remains former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, who joined Monterrey last February on a free transfer after leaving Sevilla.

With this move, Martial would be the fifth player in the Monterrey squad to have previously played for Sevilla. Alongside Ramos and Ocampos, Óliver Torres and Mexican winger Jesús Corona are also among the list of former Sevilla players. Canales, on the other hand, previously played for Sevilla’s city rivals, Real Betis.
