On Friday, Scottish Premiership powerhouse Rangers announced the loan acquisition of Tottenham forward Mikey Moore for the upcoming season. As the Scottish top flight gears up for its return on Saturday, the left winger arrives at Ibrox with significant expectations, having impressed in Tottenham’s youth squads over the past few years. “I’m thrilled to get started. When I heard that Rangers were keen on bringing me in, it felt like a massive opportunity,” Moore shared in a club interview. “I’m eager to be here and showcase my abilities to the fans and everyone involved.”

Moore’s reputation has surged in the last year, fueled by a stellar performance in Tottenham’s U-18 team, where he scored an extraordinary 19 goals and provided 13 assists in just 24 appearances. This performance earned him a swift promotion to the Spurs first team, making him the youngest player ever to start for the North London club in a league match against Crystal Palace last October, at just 17 years and 77 days old. Consequently, his market value skyrocketed from €1 million prior to his Premier League debut to an impressive €18 million.

While this market value may not stand out among his Tottenham teammates, it certainly shines in the context of the Scottish Premiership. Upon joining Rangers, Moore instantly became the league’s most valuable player, surpassing Celtic’s Daizen Maeda (€15 million) and significantly eclipsing Rangers’ previously most valuable player, Nicolas Raskin (€10 million). In fact, his valuation is so remarkable that it stands out in the historical context of Scottish football.

MVP Premiership arrivals

As illustrated in the table above, Moore’s market value positions him second among all players ever featured in the Scottish top flight concerning market valuation. At €18 million, he matches Amad Diallo’s valuation when he joined Rangers on loan from Manchester United during the 21/22 season and is second only to Robbie Keane’s loan move to Celtic in 2010, where the Irish striker had a market value of €19 million at that time. However, the real test will be whether Moore can hit the ground running in Russell Martin’s squad and potentially increase that market value, or if he will spend a significant amount of time on the bench this upcoming season.
