The clock is ticking as we approach the World Cup in just nine months. This time, it's back to its traditional summer slot in the UK. Next June, the USA, Canada, and Mexico will host the 2026 World Cup, which promises to be the largest edition in history, featuring up to 48 nations competing for football's most prestigious prize. Only eight countries have ever lifted the World Cup trophy.

Four years ago, during the winter tournament in Qatar, Argentina clinched the remarkable trophy for the third time, with Lionel Messi finally achieving the one accolade that had eluded him throughout his illustrious career. With less than a year to go until the festivities commence at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, 18 nations have already secured their spots in the competition. Let's take a look at who has qualified.

We'll start with the three host nations that automatically qualified: the USA, Canada, and Mexico will have the chance to compete on home soil next summer. The South American qualification has recently concluded with Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, Uruguay, Brazil, and Paraguay confirming their places. Bolivia still has an opportunity to qualify, but they'll need to win a playoff match.

From the Asian qualifiers, Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan, South Korea, Japan, and Australia have secured their flights to North America. In Africa, Morocco and Tunisia have booked their spots, and from Oceania, New Zealand has also made it. Among those qualified, only Uzbekistan and Jordan will be making their first-ever appearances at the World Cup.
