Süper Lig market values: Osimhen's increase of €5m - Sané and Onana's significant drops

After an exciting summer transfer window for Turkish football, Transfermarkt has revised the market values of 285 players in the Süper Lig. Victor Osimhen, who recently made a permanent move from Napoli to Galatasaray, remains the most valuable player in Turkey, seeing his value rise from €70 million to €75 million, aligning with the transfer fee paid by the club.

Süper Lig: Overview of all new market values

“He transferred for €75m with only one year left on his contract, which is an impressive amount and a record in Türkiye,” said Lara Karacan, Area Manager for Türkiye. “Historically, Turkish clubs are not afraid to spend significant amounts even on players with short-term contracts, so we have to consider the remaining duration of his contract with caution. His market value may also reflect a decrease due to the loss of status from leaving a top-five league, leading us to cap his value at €75m.”

Osimhen leads the pack in Turkish football, with Fenerbahçe’s Colombian forward Jhon Durán following in second place, maintaining his value at €35 million while on loan from Al-Nassr. However, Orkun Kökçu from Besiktas, who dropped by €2 million to €28 million, now shares the third position as market values fluctuate for players at Galatasaray.

Türkiye Market Values: Singo’s Rise – Sané’s Decline

Wilfried Singo is the player now occupying the shared third place. The 24-year-old defender transferred to Galatasaray from Monaco for €30.8 million this summer. “Singo’s transfer fee surpassed his market value, yet we felt an adjustment to €28 million was fair given his move from a top-five league to the Süper Lig,” Karacan stated. His value has increased by €3 million from the previous €25 million.

Leroy Sané, another player at Galatasaray, has dropped from second to fourth in market value. “His shift to Galatasaray was unexpected, as it was anticipated he would renew his contract with Bayern or move to the Premier League. Instead, he chose a lucrative deal in Türkiye. Following a few underwhelming performances, along with the natural decline associated with aging—Sané will soon be 30—a decrease in his market value was to be expected,” Karacan noted. He saw a decline of 21.9%, bringing his value down from €32 million to €25 million, just outside the top three.

André Onana, the goalkeeper who left Manchester United for Trabzonspor, is another player transitioning from a top-five league. “Before departing to Trabzonspor, Onana had lost his starting position at Manchester United. Other clubs showed no interest in him, and Trabzonspor urgently needed a keeper. Though he performed decently in his early matches, his market value is likely to drop due to a decline in status and lack of international play,” Karacan explained. Onana’s value has decreased by €5 million, from €25 million to €20 million.

Understanding Transfermarkt Market Values

Transfermarkt calculates market values using various pricing models, heavily influenced by the Transfermarkt community, which deliberates and assesses player values. It’s important to note that these market values are not equivalent to transfer fees.

The aim is not to forecast a transfer price but to represent a player’s expected market value. Individual transfer conditions and circumstantial factors play significant roles in determining these values. Transfermarkt does not utilize algorithms for these calculations (for more details on market value definitions, click here).
