The summer transfer window concluded on Monday evening for most major leagues, capping off a frantic deadline day. Clubs set a record by investing €757 million on that final day, pushing total spending beyond the €10 billion mark throughout the window. A new record was established for the highest spending in a single transfer window, now standing at €10.32 billion, although some leagues continue to keep their windows open. Clubs in the Süper Lig and the Saudi Pro League can still sign new players, making them prime destinations for those looking to offload unwanted talent.

Liverpool emerged as the window’s top spenders, investing €482 million on new acquisitions, including the summer’s three priciest signings: Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike. On the other hand, Chelsea led in income generation, recovering an impressive €332 million from player sales. But which club recorded the highest net spend when balancing expenditure and income from player departures? Utilizing Transfermarkt data, we have the details.

While these figures may still fluctuate due to some ongoing windows, Arsenal currently holds the title for the highest net spend this summer, with €283.2 million as of September 3rd. Mikel Arteta’s team invested €293.5 million on new players but managed to recoup only €10.3 million from sales. The club has faced challenges in securing significant fees for outgoing players over the past decade, a trend that continued this summer.

As illustrated in the graphic above, Liverpool ranks second with a net spend of €263.4 million. Although they were the highest spenders at €482 million, they also generated €219.5 million from sales, with Luis Diaz’s transfer to Bayern Munich being the largest at €70 million. The top five also features Manchester United (€176.5 million) and Tottenham Hotspur (€169.1 million), while Real Madrid rounds out the list in fifth place with €165.5 million.
