Lennon Miller has successfully completed his transfer to Serie A club Udinese, securing a record fee for Motherwell. At just 18 years old, Miller made history as the youngest player to appear for the Steelmen when he debuted against Inverness in August 2022. His remarkable journey continued as he became the club’s youngest captain, leading Motherwell against Rangers at Hampden in November 2024.
The highly skilled midfielder is regarded as one of the top Scottish talents to emerge in the last decade, attracting interest from various clubs, but Udinese has ultimately secured his signature. Reports indicate that the Italian club will pay an initial fee of approximately €5.5 million, with additional performance-related add-ons and a substantial sell-on clause included in the agreement. This initial figure surpasses Motherwell’s previous record sale, when David Turnbull transferred to Celtic for €3 million in 2020.
Lennon Miller Transfers to Udinese from Motherwell
Miller joins a growing list of Scottish players making the leap to Serie A, a trend that has proven successful for Italian clubs. Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey, and Josh Doig have all thrived in Italy’s top league, while Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay also made significant impacts as Napoli clinched the Scudetto last season. With just one year remaining on his contract at Fir Park, Miller will be fondly remembered by Motherwell supporters for his contribution of 16 goals in 76 appearances. He recently made his debut for Scotland, and his market value has surged by €6.4 million over the past year, making him the most valuable player on Transfermarkt outside of Celtic and Rangers.
After finalizing his move to Udinese, Miller expressed his gratitude to Motherwell for their role in his development, stating: “Motherwell has always been my home. Since I was a young boy, I’ve achieved my dream of playing in the first team, experiencing big stadiums, and wearing the captain’s armband. I thank all the supporters for their incredible support. To all the coaches who have helped me grow as a player and a person, I truly appreciate it. I wouldn’t be here without their guidance.”
