Usually, players were more than happy to give a ‘yes’, eager to be featured in what was once the country’s top-selling football magazine or to share messages with United supporters through its pages. Presenting these interviews in the magazine often meant coming up with a creative angle for each unique encounter with a Reds player, even if some ideas carried a bit of risk!
“I’ll always remember creating an incredible Christmas cover for the magazine one year,” Rebecca shares in the new special edition. “I’m not sure what Photoshop was like back in 2002, because the snow that gently fell on Roy Keane, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Ryan Giggs, and Seba Veron involved my colleague and me standing on ladders and tossing artificial snow on their heads! Keano looks delightfully festive on the cover—definitely not the vibe I got from him in between shots!”
