From the very beginning, United took the initiative against the hosts, with Zach Baumann coming close to scoring after a backheel from James Scanlon. Jaydan Kamason also threatened, striking the near post during a somewhat chaotic phase of the game, before Kennedy Digie cleared the resulting rebound.
Travis Binnion’s team maintained a brisk tempo, but Tamworth capitalized on a brief period of momentum when Harvey Sayer’s long-range shot forced Will Murdock into action for the first time. In the 27th minute, Sayer’s corner was punched away by Murdock, only for Digie to cleverly attempt a follow-up, which ricocheted off the crossbar.
A rapid counterattack by the Lambs, led by Kwaku Donkor, saw Jordan Ponticelli force a great save from Murdock shortly afterward.
Baumann had another shot saved by Jas Singh in the home goal, but just before halftime, the Kone incident occurred, leading to the match being called off.
