Brazil market values: Kaio Jorge rises, Neymar declines after national team omission

Kaio Jorge has emerged as the standout player in the latest market value update for the Brazilian Championship on Transfermarkt. With an impressive tally of 15 goals and five assists in 21 matches, the Cruzeiro striker, wearing No. 9, has been called up to the Brazilian national team, resulting in a €10 million increase in his market value to €17 million.

Brazil market value update news

Alongside Kaio Jorge, several other prominent players in the Brasileirão also saw significant increases in their market values, including Vasco’s Rayan and Fluminense’s Martinelli and Hércules. The update also marks the debut market values of players recently promoted to professional teams, such as Corinthians striker Gui Negão, who starts with a market value of €5 million. Conversely, several players from Flamengo, including Nicolas De La Cruz, Michael, Matias Viña, and Pedro, experienced notable drops in market value. Neymar, who has been sidelined from the Brazilian national team, also saw a decline due to a lack of consistent performances.

Kaio Jorge Makes His Mark in the Brazilian Championship

Kaio Jorge’s outstanding performances have caught the attention of Carlo Ancelotti, the coach of the Brazilian national team. The 23-year-old forward has become a key figure in the Brasileirão. After being sold by Santos to Juventus in 2021 for €7 million, he faced a major setback with a serious injury that kept him out for a year. Returning to Brazil in July 2024, he has established himself this year as one of the country’s top talents.

“Kaio Jorge has met all expectations since his breakout at Santos and his move to Juventus in Italy,” said Marcos Watts, Transfermarkt‘s Area Manager for Brazil. “Injuries during his time in Europe hindered his growth, but he has recovered and is now showcasing his full potential. His speed, versatility, and goal-scoring ability are impressive, making his selection for the national team well-deserved. That’s why he’s so highly valued in the Brasileirão.”

Despite an increase of €10 million in market value, Kaio Jorge does not hold the title of the most valuable player in the country; that distinction belongs to Botafogo’s Danilo, valued at €28 million. Danilo previously played for Nottingham Forest in England before joining the Rio club in July. The top players’ market values in the Brasileirão remain unchanged, with Corinthians’ Yuri Alberto and Flamengo’s Samuel Lino at €22 million, while Palmeiras’ Vitor Roque stands at €20 million.

Neymar Faces Decline in Market Value

Neymar’s market value has decreased by €1 million, bringing him to €11 million. His return to Brazilian football this year has been marred by injuries and inconsistent performances, having only scored six goals and provided three assists in 20 matches. After being omitted from the national team due to a “technical decision” by Ancelotti, Neymar faces the risk of missing out on the World Cup and needs to demonstrate significant improvement in the coming months to secure his spot on the team.

Neymar market value update

“Neymar remains a wildcard in Brazilian football,” Watts noted. “Despite his significant talent, the signs of aging are evident, hindering his path to success. The poor performance of his teammates also impacts him, especially as Santos grapples with a major management crisis affecting Neymar’s play. It’s uncertain if he would fare better in a well-structured team with stronger players. His inconsistent performances cast doubt on his participation in the 2026 World Cup.”

Two standout players from Flamengo have experienced considerable drops in their market values. Pedro and De La Cruz have seen the most significant declines amidst recent controversies and changes in their starting positions. Following concerns about his fitness and subsequent critical remarks from the club’s doctor, De La Cruz missed out on being called up to Marcelo Bielsa’s national team. Pedro, too, has faced criticism from coach Filipe Luis, leading to calls for greater commitment from him. Although Flamengo sought to offload Pedro in June, the interest received did not meet expectations. Since then, Pedro has shown improvement, but these issues have led to a €2 million drop in his market value, now standing at €20 million, making him the fifth-most valuable player in the league.

Understanding Transfermarkt Market Values

Market values on Transfermarkt are calculated based on various pricing models, with significant input from the Transfermarkt community, where members actively discuss and assess player valuations. It is essential to note that these market values do not equate to transfer fees.

The aim is not to predict transfer prices but rather to provide an estimated value of a player in a free market. Various factors, such as individual transfer types and situational conditions, play a role in determining these market values. Transfermarkt does not rely on algorithms for these evaluations (detailed definitions can be found here).
