Jesse Lingard has announced that he will part ways with FC Seoul next week after spending two years in South Korea, following a mutual decision to seek new opportunities. The former Manchester United midfielder made the unexpected choice to join the K-League club in February 2024, leading to a fascinating journey. Lingard faced a challenging adaptation period at Seoul and received criticism from his coach early on.

However, the former England international turned opinions around, becoming a key player and eventually earning the captain’s armband. His presence has drawn significant attention to FC Seoul, and he has emerged as a symbolic figure within the K-League. Nevertheless, Lingard’s stint in South Korea will conclude without any trophies, as he prepares to say goodbye during his final match against Melbourne City in the AFC Champions League on Wednesday night.

During his time at the South Korean club, Lingard has made 66 appearances, scoring 18 goals and assisting ten more. At 32 years old, he recorded the first double-digit goal season of his career, helping Seoul to a sixth-place finish. While his next destination remains uncertain, interest from clubs in England is likely, and given his fondness for the United States, a move to MLS could be on the horizon.

In a heartfelt message on Instagram regarding his departure, Lingard expressed: “My time in South Korea has been unbelievable—the football, the atmosphere, and the passion surrounding this club have been exceptional. The love, support, and appreciation I’ve received over the last two years have been truly amazing. I’ll always be grateful for the chance to play for such a prestigious club.”
