Sancho’s Third Loan in Two Years
Jadon Sancho is nearing a loan move to Aston Villa, with Manchester United having reached an agreement with the club in the Midlands. The 25-year-old is set to join Unai Emery’s squad on a season-long loan, with Villa accommodating his wage requests. This will mark Sancho’s third loan spell in just two years, following prior stints at Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund.
The England international was initially expected to secure a permanent move to Chelsea this summer, but the Blues faced a €5.8 million penalty for not fulfilling a buy obligation. Although Chelsea were interested in keeping Sancho, he was not willing to accept a reduced salary. Currently, Sancho commands a high wage at Old Trafford and recently declined an offer to join Roma. Manchester United has the option to extend his contract until 2027, which they are likely to activate in hopes of receiving a transfer fee next summer.
Jadon Sancho Set for Loan to Aston Villa
This summer has been challenging for Aston Villa, who have faced restrictions in the transfer market due to Financial Fair Play regulations. The club has also struggled in the Premier League, with no wins in their opening three matches, placing them near the bottom of the table. Aston Villa is the only team yet to score this season, and Emery will be looking to Sancho to inject some creativity into the squad.
Sancho had a commendable stint at Chelsea last season, contributing 15 goals in 41 matches and netting a goal in the Europa Conference League final. United invested €85 million to bring Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, but he has struggled to replicate the remarkable success he achieved in the Bundesliga.
