Alexander Isak has spoken out regarding his circumstances at Newcastle United amidst Liverpool’s interest in the Swedish forward. The 25-year-old’s future has turned into one of the most talked-about stories of the transfer window, as he has opted not to play for Newcastle due to his ambition to join Liverpool.
Liverpool’s initial bid for Isak was turned down by Newcastle, who are reportedly asking for over €150 million.
As a result, Isak has been training separately from his teammates and was absent from Newcastle’s opening Premier League match against Aston Villa on Saturday. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe acknowledged after the match that he hoped to resolve the situation swiftly, but it’s evident that Isak is intent on moving on after releasing a statement.
Alexander Isak issues statement regarding his future at Newcastle
On Tuesday night, Isak was included in the PFA Team of the Season for 2024/25 after scoring 23 goals in the Premier League. Shortly after receiving this recognition, he released a powerful statement expressing his desire to leave Newcastle this summer. He stated: “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship is no longer sustainable. I am honored to be acknowledged by my peers with a spot in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25. I would like to extend my gratitude to my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me throughout my journey.”
Isak added: “I am not attending the ceremony tonight. Given the current circumstances, it didn’t feel appropriate to be present. I have remained silent for a long time while others have spoken out. That silence has allowed people to put forth their own narratives, despite knowing they don’t reflect the true discussions and agreements made privately. The facts are that promises were made, and the club has been aware of my stance for quite some time. To now suggest these matters are only coming to light is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship is no longer sustainable. That is my current position – and a change is necessary for the benefit of all parties involved, not just myself.”
