Top 10 Unveiled
From Alan Shearer’s unwavering accuracy to Erling Haaland’s record-setting performances, the Premier League has produced its share of hat-trick legends—strikers capable of changing the course of a match, or even a season, with just one spectacular display. Since the league began in the 1992/93 season, 208 players have taken home a match ball, but only a few have done so frequently enough to secure their places in football history.
Over the span of three decades—transitioning from muddy pitches and 4-4-2 formations to modern data-driven strategies—the artistry of the hat-trick has evolved but remains the premier showcase of offensive brilliance. The elite goal-scorers, regardless of the eras they represent, share a common trait: a merciless ability to convert opportunities into goals. Transfermarkt reflects on the players with the highest number of Premier League hat-tricks, highlighting how these prolific finishers consistently reset scoring benchmarks season after season.
At the top is Manchester City icon Sergio Agüero, who netted 12 Premier League hat-tricks in just 175 matches for the Citizens, highlighted by two four-goal performances and a five-goal eruption against Newcastle in 2015. Alan Shearer, the league’s all-time leading goal-scorer, claims second place with 11 hat-tricks in 441 games. Ranking third is former Liverpool ace Robbie Fowler, who accomplished nine hat-tricks across 379 Premier League outings. Notably, Erling Haaland positions himself in fourth, having already scored eight hat-tricks in only 108 league appearances.
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry occupies the fifth spot with eight hat-tricks in 258 Premier League matches. Just across North London, Harry Kane also has eight hat-tricks for Tottenham, but in 320 top-flight games. In seventh place is Michael Owen, who matched that mark with eight hat-tricks in 326 appearances, followed by Wayne Rooney, who compiled seven hat-tricks over 491 matches. Uruguayan star Luis Suárez ranks ninth with six hat-tricks in just 110 games, while Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy rounds out the top ten with five hat-tricks across 150 matches.
