All valued at €50 million or less
Newcastle, Liverpool, and their pursuit of striker Alexander Isak have been prominent news this transfer window. The situation intensified when Newcastle expressed interest in French striker Hugo Ekitiké in July, only for Liverpool to intervene after previously attracting Newcastle’s attention toward Isak. Although Ekitiké has joined Liverpool, the uncertainty surrounding Isak’s future continues, as he has alleged dishonesty from the club and stated he won’t play for them again. Nevertheless, Newcastle insists he is not for sale while seeking a resolution. Regardless of Isak’s situation, Newcastle’s forward options remain limited, leading them to consider Wolves’ striker Jørgen Strand Larsen as a potential new addition.
Recently, Newcastle had an enhanced bid of €63.8 million for Larsen turned down by Wolves. The club believed discussions were fruitful but Wolves remain firm in their position, considering Larsen crucial to their squad and citing time constraints for finding a suitable replacement. After securing Larsen for €27 million earlier this summer from a loan deal, and given his current market value of €30 million, the asking price seems steep. Consequently, we at Transfermarkt have identified five alternative strikers Newcastle could target this summer, each valued at €50 million or less.
Five alternative strikers Newcastle could pursue this summer
Yoane Wissa – Brentford
A striker frequently linked with Newcastle is Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. The Magpies are interested in signing Wissa, who reportedly has aspirations of moving to St James’ Park. Wissa is Brentford’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League with 45 goals and netted 19 goals last season. With a market value of €32 million, he could serve as an effective backup for Isak or potentially replace him, and is also versatile enough to play on the wing.
Samu Aghehowa – Porto
A younger talent to consider, Porto’s Samu Aghehowa could provide immediate competition and long-term potential. The 21-year-old striker joined Porto from Atlético Madrid last summer for €32 million and scored 19 goals in 30 appearances for the club. While still developing, Aghehowa’s raw talent, combined with his physicality, may offer a contrasting style to Isak’s finesse, making him a smart investment for Newcastle.
Gonçalo Ramos – PSG
PSG’s Gonçalo Ramos could also be on the market this summer. The Portuguese forward struggled for game time last season under manager Luis Enrique, starting only 12 Ligue 1 matches but still scoring 10 goals. With great pace and finishing abilities, Ramos could bring valuable Champions League experience to Newcastle’s attack.
Vangelis Pavlidis – Benfica
Newcastle might also consider Vangelis Pavlidis, the Greek striker for Benfica, as an option. The 26-year-old netted 19 goals in the league last season and added seven more in 12 Champions League matches. Standing at 1.86 meters, he excels in aerial duels and could complement Isak during specific gameplay scenarios while providing a different dynamic to Newcastle’s lineup.
Mika Biereth – Monaco
Former Arsenal youth product Mika Biereth had a standout 2024/25 season, helping Sturm Graz secure the title before transitioning to Ligue 1 side Monaco. There, he continued his scoring form with 13 goals in 19 games. Biereth may welcome a chance to return to English football and would likely be open to playing a supporting role to Isak, making him a cost-effective option for Newcastle.
