This summer, significant sums are set to be spent as Europe's elite clubs chase the continent's most exciting and sought-after talent. From the Premier League’s wealth to the deep wallets of major teams in France, Spain, and Germany, transfer fees for top players have never been higher. However, beyond the headline-grabbing transfers, a number of players will be seeking new clubs this summer, who may not attract as much attention and could represent some of the best bargains.

Indeed, the thrill of acquiring a player after their standout season is exhilarating for football fans, yet often the wisest deals arise from signing players whose stock has fallen. So, which star players from Europe’s top leagues are in desperate need of a change in scenery to revive their careers at the elite level? After reviewing the top five in the Premier League, here’s a list of players to watch from across the continent this summer.

Loïs Openda - Market value dropped by €10m last season

The first player on our radar is Loïs Openda, a striker in the

who could benefit from a new environment next season. Openda joined
RB Leipzig
from Lens in the summer of 2023 for a club-record fee. However, he has struggled to distinguish himself amidst emerging talents like Benjamin Sesko and Xavi Simons, often being forced into roles that don’t suit his strengths as a dynamic center forward. Following an impressive debut season with 31 goals and assists in 34 league matches, his output fell to just 18 last season, causing his market value to plunge by €10m. Unless Leipzig offloads either Simons or Sesko this summer, it's hard to see Openda reclaiming his spot as a leading figure at the club.

Gonçalo Ramos - Market value dropped by €10m last season

An additional forward whose standing has declined is
Gonçalo Ramos
, the Paris Saint-Germain striker. Last season, he played in just 35% of his club's league matches, starting only one game in a Champions League campaign that ultimately concluded with PSG’s triumph. Since his €65m transfer to the club in January 2024, Ramos' status has diminished significantly, resulting in a €10m decrease in market value over the past year. Now 24, with an impressive scoring rate of 0.81 goals per 90 minutes, he is primed to leave for a new challenge if the right offer presents itself.

Rafael Leão - Market value dropped by €20m last season

Unlike Openda or Ramos,
Rafael Leão
is not an undervalued talent at his current club,
AC Milan
. Nevertheless, his declining form has sparked a strong desire for a transfer this summer. After completing six seasons in
Serie A
, the Portuguese winger appears disillusioned and eager to leave Massimiliano Allegri's lineup. With 18 goals and assists last season, he has dipped from his peak of 25 a couple of seasons back. There’s a prevailing sentiment that Leão needs a move to continue his growth. His market value has decreased from a career-best of €90m to €70m.

Dušan Vlahović - Market value dropped by €30m last season

Another Serie A player needing a fresh start is
Dušan Vlahović
, once celebrated as one of the premier No.9s globally following his €83.5m transfer from Fiorentina to
Juventus
in 2021. Unfortunately, he has not met expectations, netting only 58 goals in 145 appearances for the club. Vlahović's role has diminished with each season, and as he approaches the final year of his contract, Juventus appears inclined to sell him at the right price this summer. His market value has dramatically decreased from a high of €85m in 2022 to just €35m now.

Eduardo Camavinga - Market value dropped by €40m last season

A testament to the immense talent of midfielder
Eduardo Camavinga
is that, despite being only 22, he has been a part of
Real Madrid
for some time now. His €31m transfer from Stade Rennais was undoubtedly a bargain for the LaLiga side, but Camavinga has struggled to find his footing, often utilized in roles that limit his potential. Having played just 15 matches as a central midfielder last season and participating in only 32% of Madrid's league games, his market value plummeted by €40m in the past year. Unless he can secure more time in his preferred position, a transfer may be on the horizon for the young talent.
