The match went to penalties, and while England initially held the upper hand, missed kicks from Lauren James, Mead, and Alex Greenwood allowed goalkeeper Jennifer Falk a chance to propel Sweden to victory.
However, Falk’s attempt went over the bar, sending the shootout into sudden death.
She redeemed herself by stopping Clinton’s penalty, but Sofia Jakobsson failed to seize the moment as Hannah Hampton saved her attempt.
Lucy Bronze made no mistake with England’s seventh penalty, and when teenager Smilia Holmberg also missed, England celebrated their place in the semi-finals.
Absolute euphoria! 😮
