‘Agreement Reached’
Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly reached an initial agreement with Crystal Palace to acquire Eberechi Eze. The England international appeared to wave goodbye to Palace fans following the 0-0 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. After a serious injury to James Maddison, Eze has emerged as a key target for Tottenham, with Daniel Levy initiating discussions with Crystal Palace executives last week.
The talks have progressed, with Tottenham prepared to offer around €63.5 million for Eze, along with an additional €5.8 million in performance-related bonuses. If these bonuses are activated, Eze will become Spurs’ record signing. Negotiations continue regarding the structure of the initial fee, which is expected to be paid in installments. As Palace prepares to face Fredrikstad in the Europa Conference League play-offs on Thursday night, Eze is unlikely to participate as his transfer to Tottenham approaches completion.
Potential Role of Eberechi Eze at Spurs
The signing of Eze would be a significant boost for Spurs and manager Thomas Frank, especially after a strong start under the former Brentford coach. Tottenham performed well against PSG in the Super Cup before losing in penalties, but they rebounded impressively with a convincing victory over Burnley on the Premier League’s opening day. Earlier in the transfer window, Arsenal had also shown interest in Eze, though their pursuits waned as they signed Ethan Nwaneri to a new contract and struggled to offload surplus players.
Frank’s tactical approach offers flexibility, allowing Eze to fill multiple roles within the starting lineup. While he has primarily played as a central attacking midfielder at Palace, Eze is also adept as a left winger, enjoying the freedom to cut inside. With injuries sidelining Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, Eze, along with fellow summer signing Mohammed Kudus, is set to be the creative driving force for Tottenham as they look to have a successful campaign in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
