Premier League clubs frequently overspend on players to bolster their oversized squads, often leaving some players on the sidelines despite hefty weekly salaries. According to Transfermarkt, there are 18 outfield players this season who have not been injured yet have not stepped onto the field for even a minute of Premier League play.

Sunderland, having welcomed 16 new players for the 2025/26 season, has left three of its squad members without any match time. Following them are Bournemouth, Burnley, Chelsea, and Wolves, each with two players not participating, while Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Nottingham Forest each have one player left out.

Brighton acquired Olivier Boscagli from PSV Eindhoven over the summer, where he made 140 appearances in the Eredivisie during his six-year tenure. Although he scored once in two League Cup appearances, the 28-year-old has not yet made his first appearance under Fabian Hürzeler. Boscagli, who joined on a free transfer, is valued at €20 million, making him the most valuable player on the list of those yet to play. It remains uncertain whether Brighton will decide to sell him in January or provide him with increased playing time as he adapts to the Amex Stadium.

At Chelsea, Axel Disasi and fellow outcast Raheem Sterling have been training away from the first-team squad after being excluded from Enzo Maresca’s plans. Disasi’s market value has plummeted to €18 million since his arrival in the summer of 2023, while Sterling, the first signing of the Clearlake era, has seen his value drop to just €7 million.

Bournemouth's Julián Araujo, valued at €10 million, is another high-profile player still searching for playing time after making 12 league appearances last season. Like his teammate Matai Akinmboni, he has not yet featured this term. Next is Tyrell Malacia, the Manchester United left-back valued at €8 million, who was unable to secure a loan move and has struggled to find a place in Rúben Amorim’s starting lineup.

Despite much anticipation surrounding Adam Aznou’s transfer from Bayern Munich, the 19-year-old has yet to see the pitch under David Moyes at Everton. Burnley has also been criticized for not utilizing Mike Tresor and Hannes Delcroix this season, while Enso Gonzalez, a €6 million acquisition from Libertad in Paraguay in 2023, has been sidelined at Molineux along with Tawanda Chirewa.

Other players seeking first-team opportunities include Yunus Konak (Brentford), Naouirou Ahamada (Crystal Palace), Rhys Williams (Liverpool), Willy Boly (Nottingham Forest), Timothée Pembélé, Ian Poveda, and Jay Matete (Sunderland).

Only time will tell if their situations will change before the January transfer window opens.
