Newcastle United has made an initial offer for Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht Frankfurt. According to Transfermarkt, the Premier League club is keen on signing the French forward. Recent reports indicate that Newcastle's offer of €80m was rejected by the Bundesliga side on July 15, as it was deemed insufficient. Following Newcastle's interest, Liverpool has also entered the race for Ekitiké, with expectations of a significant offer from the Anfield club.

So, what constitutes a substantial offer? Eintracht Frankfurt, who have sold Randal Kolo Muani for €95 million to Paris Saint-Germain and Omar Marmoush for €75m to Manchester City in the past two years, will demand a hefty fee to part with Ekitiké this summer. Reports suggest that Frankfurt's asking price hovers around €100m. The club is known for its strong negotiation skills and has historically achieved favorable outcomes in the transfer market. With Ekitiké contracted until 2029 and no exit clause in his agreement, Frankfurt's bargaining power is even greater, especially with two Premier League clubs interested in him.

Frankfurt acquired Ekitiké on loan from PSG in February 2024 for €3.5m and subsequently made the transfer permanent for an additional €16.5m the following summer. It is reported that PSG will receive 20% of any profits made by Frankfurt on this deal. Since joining, Ekitiké’s market value has skyrocketed from €15m to €75m. However, Frankfurt is looking for a fee significantly exceeding his current market value for any potential transfer.

€75m+ - Why is Newcastle eager to sign Hugo Ekitiké?

There has been considerable interest in Ekitiké. Chelsea expressed interest in him ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, and at one point Arsenal considered him before shifting their focus to Benjamin Sesko and, ultimately, Viktor Gyökeres. Now, Newcastle is the latest club showing interest in the forward from Frankfurt.

What draws Newcastle to Ekitiké? A strong question indeed. Ekitiké has a profile strikingly similar to Swedish forward Alexander Isak. With Newcastle pursuing Ekitiké, one must wonder how this impacts Isak’s future at the club. Technically, they could play together as Isak tends to drift wide, but there has also been significant interest in Isak, particularly from Liverpool, who are looking to replace the void left by the unfortunate passing of star forward Diogo Jota. Additionally, Liverpool aims to sell Darwin Nunez this summer. Essentially, Newcastle is not only working to fend off interest in Isak but is also competing to secure Ekitiké.

For Newcastle, Ekitiké represents a player who has recently begun to meet the high expectations set when PSG signed him for €28.5m from Stade Reims in 2023. During the 2024/25 season, he netted 15 goals and provided eight assists over 33 Bundesliga appearances. His performance was vital for Frankfurt, especially after they lost top scorer Marmoush to Manchester City, helping the team secure a top-four finish and a place in the Champions League. As highlighted previously on Transfermarkt, Ekitiké is a versatile forward capable of playing as a no.9 or on the wing. With immense talent and speed, there is a belief that he can elevate his game further, whether that occurs in Frankfurt or possibly at Newcastle in the near future.
