Nottingham Forest has secured the loan signing of Douglas Luiz from Juventus, which includes an option to buy. This is a significant addition for Forest as they look to build on their Premier League success from the previous season. Luiz, who joined Juventus last summer from Aston Villa for €51.5 million, struggled to secure a regular starting spot in Italy, playing only 877 minutes.
Transfermarkt reports that Forest will pay an initial loan fee of €3 million along with a buy clause of €25 million contingent on the number of games he plays. Manchester City had shown keen interest in a loan deal for Luiz back in January, but the 27-year-old will make his return to the Premier League with Forest.
Douglas Luiz Joins Nottingham Forest on Loan
Luiz marks the eighth addition to Forest’s squad this summer, as manager Nuno Espírito Santo enhances the team for their return to European competition. Forest will compete in the Europa League, marking their first participation in European tournaments in three decades. Upon joining the club, Luiz expressed his enthusiasm: “I am really happy to be here. It’s a big club, and I chose to come here because I see the ambition the club has. I am excited to start with the team and give my best for the shirt and the fans.”
Chief football officer Ross Wilson commented on the signing, stating, “It’s been a very busy but successful transfer window for us in the past few weeks, and Douglas is another valuable addition to our squad. He has played at the highest level for an extended period and understands the demands of the Premier League, as well as having experience in top European competitions. We’re thrilled to welcome Douglas to our group, and we are confident he will be warmly received by everyone at Nottingham Forest.”
