FIRST HALF
Jim Thwaites was the initial force in helping United settle into the match, unleashing a curling shot in the ninth minute that was expertly handled by George Mair, who also denied Mantato on the rebound.
Next, Nathaniel Brown made a strong run down the wing, getting past Henry Johnson, but his shot was again saved by Mair.
Brown continued to be a key player as the young Reds maintained their early pressure; he delivered a brilliant cross to Jariyah Shah, whose volley was thwarted by the Newcastle goalkeeper.
Gabriel then took a shot from distance, but it was straight at the busy Mair, who managed to deflect the rebound away from Louie Bradbury.
