For many clubs, 2025 will remain a year to remember. Liverpool matched Manchester United’s record by clinching the Premier League title, while in Naples, Scott McTominay led Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years. After years of significant investment, PSG finally secured their first Champions League title with a commanding 5-0 victory against Inter Milan in the final.

Across the ocean, Flamengo triumphed over Palmeiras in the Copa Libertadores final. However, not all clubs have celebrated such triumphs; many will hope that 2026 brings more positive experiences than 2025. Whether due to relegation, losing finals, or failing to meet aspirations, several teams might prefer to forget this past year. Using Transfermarkt's well-known market values, we've identified the clubs that experienced the most substantial market value losses in 2025.

Each major league around the world saw a market value update in December, enabling us to assess which squads experienced the greatest declines throughout the year. Surprisingly, Real Sociedad saw the largest drop, losing €177 million in market value. They had a disappointing season, finishing 11th in LaLiga last year and currently sitting just above the relegation zone in 16th place.

The graphic above shows that Bayer Leverkusen ranks second, primarily due to the loss of key players, including Florian Wirtz, who had a market value of €140 million. Five of the ten clubs listed experienced relegation from the top five leagues last summer, including Leicester City and Aston Villa. Despite a strong season, Aston Villa appears on the list, while Manchester United’s inclusion reflects their ongoing challenges under Rúben Amorim.
