If successful, Yamal would make history as the first player to win this award, established by Tuttosport in 2003, on two occasions, and would mean that four of the last five winners hailed from Barcelona.
Currently, Matthijs de Ligt is the sole defender to have received this honor, having achieved it during his time at Ajax in 2018.
