In the evening match, France secured a 2-1 victory over Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses, who fought valiantly until the end.
Among those celebrating Les Bleues’ win at the final whistle was Reds striker Melvine Malard, who came on for Chelsea’s Sandy Baltimore—who netted the second goal for her team—shortly after the hour mark.
England’s midfielder Kiera Walsh managed to pull one back in the closing minutes, having been joined by substitutes Ella Toone and Grace Clinton earlier in the second half. Despite Wiegman’s side putting pressure on France in stoppage time, the hosts held firm to deny a late equaliser.
United captain Maya Le Tissier was also on the bench for the Lionesses but did not see any action this time.
