When asked whether he felt more nervous during the draw or the 2008 Champions League final, Rio replied, “The presentation had me feeling far more anxious!

“In the Champions League final, I was just doing what I had been doing for the past 15 to 20 years. Yes, there was some nervousness and fear, but with the draw, it was a whole different level of fear and anxiety, mainly because of the unpredictability and the technical details involved.

“The guy – I can’t remember his name now – who was guiding me through the process was fantastic. He really knew his stuff. However, when I asked him questions before the event, his responses were often just two or three key points. I was thinking, ‘I have to convey that to the audience and the millions watching in a single answer, not two or three!’

“It was definitely nerve-wracking. Until we had a rehearsal the morning of the event, I kept telling my wife, ‘This could go really, really, really, really badly.’”
