Serie A market values: Kenan Yıldız now in top 3 - Christian Pulisic returns to personal best

Following last week’s update from LaLiga, Italy’s Serie A is the next of the top five leagues to receive an intermediary market value update, impacting a total of 156 players in the league. Notably, Inter Milan’s Nicolò Barella experienced a decrease of €10 million, bringing his value to €65 million, which has bumped him out of the top three rankings. Conversely, Juventus’ Kenan Yıldız saw a substantial rise, elevating him into the top tier of players. Additionally, Lautaro Martínez from Inter has also witnessed a drop in market value, shifting from €95 million to €85 million; although this reduction still keeps him as the highest valued player in Italy.

Serie A: All new market values at a glance

“While he remains the best player in Serie A, Lautaro’s status has declined over recent months,” noted Area Manager Italy, Jatin Dietl. “His age and the current trend towards more physically dominant strikers have contributed to this downgrade. Despite this, Lautaro possesses undeniable qualities, including intelligent movement, clinical finishing, and leadership on the field, making him a vital asset for Inter. Even as a consistent forward, the evolving market dynamics have diminished his capability to sustain the highest market values moving forward.”

On the other hand, Kenan Yıldız of Juventus continues to be a standout performer in Europe. “He has shown significant advancement in his development lately, performing exceptionally at the Club World Cup and starting this season strongly,” remarked Dietl. “At just 20 years old, he’s already a key player for Juventus. His strengths encompass excellent technique, creativity in the final third, and remarkable maturity, paired with the confidence to make critical plays.” As a result, Yıldız’s market value has risen by 50%, increasing from €50 million to €75 million, placing him firmly within the top three players in Serie A.

Serie A: Pulisic achieves personal best – Manu Koné continues to impress

At AC Milan, US men’s national team star Christian Pulisic is making waves. “Since joining Serie A, he has accounted for the most goal contributions in a season,” Dietl highlighted. “While his age and history of injuries affect his prospects for reaching higher market values, he has consistently been among the league’s top performers for several years. Beyond statistics, Pulisic brings speed, creativity, and versatility to the attacking front, capable of altering game outcomes with individual brilliance.” Consequently, Pulisic’s market value has been adjusted upward by €10 million, reaching €60 million—a personal best not matched since October 2020 during his time with Chelsea.

Another rising star is Roma’s Manu Koné. “Manu is proving to be one of the most exciting talents in Serie A,” Dietl commented. “His skill set has been instrumental in Roma’s success this season. He excels in ball recovery, dynamism, and composure under pressure, while also effectively pushing the game forward from midfield. Despite Inter’s strong interest last summer, Roma opted to keep him, anticipating that another stellar season could significantly enhance his market value.” In this update, Koné’s value increased by 25%, moving from €40 million to €50 million.

Meanwhile, further north near the Swiss border, Argentine midfielder Nico Paz is catching attention with Como. “He embodies all the traits of a future star: physicality, technical skill, game intelligence, and adaptability,” Dietl praised. “Paz, who has outgrown Como, is bound for Real Madrid, as it’s difficult to envision him remaining in Serie A much longer.” Paz’s market value has surged by €20 million, now at €55 million.

Serie A market values: Gains and losses at Atalanta

In Bergamo, Atalanta has had a mix of rises and falls in player valuations. Rising steadily is Honest Ahanor. “Atalanta’s investment of over €20 million, inclusive of bonuses, for Ahanor last summer raised eyebrows, but the young defender has quickly proven his worth,” Dietl noted. “With the potential for his value to surpass that transfer fee, this could be another shrewd investment for the club.” Only 17, Ahanor’s market value soared by 300%, increasing from €5 million to €20 million.

Conversely, Ademola Lookman of Atalanta saw his value decrease by €20 million from €60 million to €40 million. “Despite putting himself on the market last summer and receiving a €45 million offer from Inter, genuine interest was limited,” Dietl explained. “His decision to skip training has negatively impacted his market value, leading to concerns regarding his desirability on the market.”

Understanding Transfermarkt Market Values

Transfermarkt market values are determined through various pricing models, heavily influenced by the Transfermarkt community, who engage in detailed discussions on player evaluations. It’s crucial to note that these values should not be mistaken for actual transfer fees.

The intention is not to forecast a transfer price but rather establish an expected value for players in an open market. A variety of factors, including individual transfer circumstances and situational contexts, play a role in shaping these market values. Transfermarkt does not utilize algorithms for these calculations (you can find a more detailed market value definition here).
