Six clean sheets in a month 💪

The chant “1-0 to the Arsenal” famously echoed through the legendary Highbury stadium during George Graham’s time as manager. While the Gunners were known for their defensive strength under Graham, Mikel Arteta has taken that legacy to new heights. It’s undeniable: Arsenal is currently the most defensively solid team in the world, remaining nearly impenetrable. The central defense duo of Gabriel and William Saliba is formidable, and Jurriën Timber’s performances place him among the top full-backs globally.
Arsenal’s depth in defense is envied by many elite European clubs, featuring top talents like Piero Hincapié, Cristhian Mosquera, Ben White, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Riccardo Calafiori. Following their 2-0 victory over Brighton in the League Cup, Arsenal made history as the first team in English top-flight history to achieve six games in a month without conceding. Currently, Arteta’s squad boasts six consecutive clean sheets—how does this performance compare to the best defenses in Premier League history?
Premier League Teams with the Most Consecutive Clean Sheets
Reviewing data from Transfermarkt across all Premier League competitions, Liverpool holds the record for the most consecutive clean sheets. Under Rafael BenÃtez in 2005, the Anfield club went 11 games without letting in a single goal, a streak that ended with a loss to São Paulo in the FIFA Club World Cup final. As shown in the graphic below, Manchester United ranks second, achieving eight consecutive clean sheets during the 2004/05 season.

This streak included two clean sheets against Exeter City in the FA Cup, and Manchester United holds the overall Premier League record with 14 consecutive shutouts. There have been seven instances where teams have gone seven matches without conceding in the Premier League, including Chelsea three times under José Mourinho. Although Arsenal’s current performance makes it into the top ten, breaking Liverpool’s record will be a challenge, especially given that they rarely allow opposition teams any chances right now.
