Football reigns as the world’s premier sport, evidenced by the majestic stadiums that grace the skylines of Europe’s greatest cities. Every weekend, millions flock to watch matches, leading to astonishing attendance figures at home games for the continent’s leading clubs. So, which European powerhouses boasted the highest average attendances in 2025? Today, Transfermarkt unveils the top contenders.
At the bottom of the top 20, Scottish Premiership club Celtic recorded an average attendance of 55,481, just trailing behind German side HSV, who drew 56,902 fans despite their recent promotion from the second tier. Right above them, Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Betis averaged attendances of 58,141 and 58,350, respectively. Benfica represented Portugal in 16th place with 58,499 attendees. Moving into the top 15, Stuttgart from Germany posted an average of 59,375, sitting just below Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool, who had averages of 60,199 and 60,427. Tottenham Hotspur topped their London rivals with an average of 60,943, while Atlético Madrid just missed the top 10 with an average of 61,544.
Breaking into the top 10, Schalke 04 showcases the vibrant fan culture in Germany with an average of 61,904, followed closely by West Ham at 62,461. Roma from Italy sits eighth with 62,872, while Marseille recorded an average of 64,401. The Milan clubs occupy the next two positions, with Inter Milan averaging 69,840 and their city rivals AC Milan drawing 72,033 fans to the San Siro. The top four is dominated by football royalty, starting with Real Madrid, whose revamped Bernabéu averaged 72,973. Manchester United secured third place with 73,880 at Old Trafford while Bayern Munich took second with a perfect average of 75,000. However, it is Borussia Dortmund that stands out at the peak with an astounding average attendance of 81,365, substantiating their status as the most supported club in European football for 2025.
As expected, German football dominates the top 20, featuring six teams from the Bundesliga and one from the 2.Bundesliga, highlighting the tremendous fan support in both leagues. Following closely are five clubs from the English Premier League, while Italy’s Serie A and Spain’s LaLiga each contribute three teams. The list is rounded out by single representatives from France’s Ligue 1, Portugal’s Liga Portugal, and the Scottish Premiership.
