194 players have received updated market values.
Following the market value updates for Brazil’s Série A earlier this month, Argentina’s Torneo Clausura has become the second prominent league in South America to undergo a similar revision. In total, 194 players in Argentina’s top division have received new market valuations. There are notable changes at the top, with Vélez Sarsfield’s Maher Carrizo seeing his market value increase by 66.7%, rising from €6 million to €10 million. This substantial upgrade positions him as the third most valuable player in Argentina.
“Carrizo is likely the brightest young talent emerging in the Argentine League,” said Scott Christensen, Area Manager for Argentina and South America. “As a left-footed right winger or center forward, he has already become a key player at Vélez at just 19 years old, the same club that nurtured Thiago Almada. He possesses a natural goal-scoring ability, evidenced by his five goals in nine Copa Libertadores matches. He is expected to be part of the Argentine U20 World Cup squad, and a strong performance there could boost his market value even further.”
Another potential U20 World Cup participant is Santino Andino. The 19-year-old forward from Godoy Cruz has contributed four goals and three assists in 27 matches this season. “He is a quick and talented left winger, confident in one-on-one situations,” Christensen remarked. “Although primarily right-footed, he is capable with his left foot too.” While his statistics might not be extraordinary, Andino’s market value has risen by 42.9%, climbing from €3.5m to €5m, partly due to interest from clubs like Atlético Mineiro and Olympiacos, which has undeniably impacted his valuations.
Market Values in Argentina: Pérez Increases – Downgrades for Di Césare and Zenón
Another player to watch is Leonel Pérez from Huracán. The 21-year-old has experienced a market value increase of 33.3%, rising from €4.5m to €6m. “He is a tall defensive midfielder, excellent in aerial duels,” Christensen explained. “Pérez has become a central figure for Huracán as he facilitates most of the team’s plays with his clarity on the ball and availability for passes. Initially, he played as an attacking midfielder, but he’s now developed into a complete defensive midfielder with significant potential.”
Alongside these upgrades, there have been some downgrades worth mentioning. Notable is the decline in value for Racing Club defender Marco Di Césare, who has dropped from €9m to €8m (-€1m), and Boca Juniors forward Kevin Zenón, whose value has fallen by €2m to €7m. Di Césare’s inconsistency has seen him oscillate between starting positions and the bench, while Zenón’s performance has waned, having played only 53 minutes in the Clausura without scoring any goals.
Understanding Transfermarkt Market Values
The market values on Transfermarkt are determined through various pricing models, heavily influenced by the Transfermarkt community, who actively discuss and assess player values. It’s important to note that these market values should not be directly equated with transfer fees.
The objective is to establish an expected market value for a player in an open market, factoring in both individual transfer circumstances and situational dynamics. Transfermarkt does not rely on algorithms for this process (a detailed market value definition can be found here).
